Tieke DeFouw

Tieke DeFouw (Bouwkamp) (née van der Veen), aged 91, passed away on July 20, 2024, in Grand Rapids, MI. She was born on August 21, 1932, in Roden, Netherlands, to Antoni and Margreta van der Veen. At 24, Tieke moved to the United States with her husband Rudy Bouwkamp, where they built a vibrant life filled with passion and creativity here in Grand Rapids.

Tieke was the esteemed owner and hairdresser of Haute Coiffure a Tieke, salons that not only styled hair but also served as a gathering place for community and friendship. Her meticulous care and vision, combined with her entrepreneurial spirit and dedication to her craft, earned her respect and admiration within the community.

Beyond her professional achievements, Tieke was deeply committed to her family, friends, and poodles. Known for never mincing her words, she always let you know what she thought. She had a passion for all things beautiful, and her carefully curated home reflected her love for ornate and stunning spaces. Often filled with laughter and company, Tieke enjoyed hosting and entertaining. She also had a special affection for her granddogs and great-granddogs, whom she adored and pampered.

Tieke's life was a testament to the joy and beauty that can be created when one follows their passions. Her legacy of beauty, love, and tenacity will be fondly remembered by all who knew her. 

Tieke is preceded in death by her daughter, Ingrid Weaver, and many close family and friends. She is survived by her granddaughters, Olivia and Madeline Weaver.

A service will be held at the Meeting House at Porter Hills Village on Tuesday, August 6th from 2 to 4 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Humane Society of West Michigan.
