It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Tom McLain on July 31, 2024, at the age of 92. Tom was born on November 7, 1931, and grew up in the beautiful countryside along the Grand River in Allendale. He was a loving husband to Sandy, his wife of 68 years, and a dedicated father to their three children, Tom McLain (Kim), Cathryn Schuil, and Jim McLain (Sue).
In addition to his loving wife, children, and dear friends, Tom McLain is survived by a large and loving family. He leaves behind numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought him immense joy and pride. His legacy will live on through the generations he touched with his kindness, wisdom, and love.
Tom had a zest for life and a love for the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and he particularly enjoyed training Brittany Spaniels. Tom found solace and joy in Northern Michigan, spending countless hours exploring the woods and lakes that he cherished.
Tom was a loyal friend and had a tight-knit group of companions who shared his interests and passions. Joe and Bob Allen, Diana and Mark Stephens , Dennis and Stacy Kelly were more than just friends to Tom; they were like family.
Tom was preceded in death by his mother, Elfie Swanson, and his brother, Norm McLain. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories that will be forever treasured by his family and friends.
Tom McLain's memory will continue to be cherished by his extended family and friends, who will forever hold him in their hearts. May his spirit live on through the love and laughter he shared with those he held dear. Your presence will be deeply missed but never forgotten. Happy trails to you, Tom McLain, until we meet again.
A Memorial Service will be held 2pm on Tuesday, August 6th at the Metcalf & Jonkhoff Chapel. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service from 1 to 2pm. Memorial contributions are suggested Community of Christ Church.
