On Wednesday January 17, Albert Thomas Sprich III, beloved husband and father, passed away. Tom was 92, born on February 15, 1931 in Belleville, Illinois, to Albert and Alice Sprich.
Tom attended Purdue University and was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon and Pi Tau Sigma, an honorary Fraternity. While attending Purdue, Tom met Tina, and so began their love story of seventy years. After receiving his degree in Mechanical Engineering, Tom and Tina married. His affiliation with the ROTC sent them to Salzburg, Austria where he served as a Lieutenant in Technical Intelligence for 2 years. After his discharge as 1st Lieutenant, he joined the Army Reserve for 4 years.
Tom worked as a manager with Victor Comptometer for 12 years and then as a Stockbroker for Merrill Lynch and Roney & Co. until his retirement in 1997.
Tom’s love of family always came first. He loved his country and its history. Tom’s passion for reading often included books of history. Tom loved passing the time listening to the Big Band music of Glen Miller. Tom was proud of his railroad model train layout that he singlehandedly built and shared with friends and family. Additionally, Tom was known as “Mr. fix it” and also enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles. Tom enjoyed many years of membership at Blythefield Country Club and Cascade Hills Country Club.
Tom is survived by his wife, Tina Whipple Sprich, his daughter, Leslie Renne-Kegebein (Paul) and his son, Thomas William Sprich (Joan), and his grandchildren Cole Thomas Renne, Shea Tina Renne-Hughes (Van), Claire Catherine Berkel (Behram) and Bryan Thomas Sprich.
Funeral Services will be held at Metcalf & Jonkhoff (4291 Cascade Rd. SE) on Saturday, January 27th at 11:30 am. In lieu of flowers, Tom would appreciate donations to T2T.org (Tunnel to Towers).
