Virginia Rose Salhaney, age 101, of Grand Rapids, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 2, 2025. She was born on September 13, 1923, in Toledo, Ohio, the daughter of Rt. Rev. John and Anna (Hanna) Mickel. In 1956 Virginia married Leo Salhaney and together they raised their family in Grand Rapids MI. They celebrated 55 years together.
Virginia was a lifetime member of St. Nicholas Orthodox Church. She was an active member of her church community and had many dear friends. Virginia loved her career in banking. One of her best accomplishments was her time at Blodgett Hospital guild where she served as president. She was very creative and loved to paint. The family has donated a few of her most precious pieces to Cascade Trails, the home she resided in for the past 7 months.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband Leo in 2011 and her beloved son Seth. She is survived by her son Mark (Mimi) Salhaney; her three grandchildren; Lindsay (Kyle), Daniel (Krista) and Marek Seth. Her dear niece April David (Mike) and their family, as well as numerous other nieces and nephews.
Family and friends may meet on Tuesday, March 11 between 10-11 am at St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, 2250 E. Paris Ave. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546, where her funeral service will take place at 11:00 am following the visitation. Memorial contributions in memory of Virginia may be made to St Nicholas Antiochian Orthodox Church.
