Wayne L Bass

On September 26, 2021, Wayne Bass (age 87) of Grand Rapids, Michigan, ended his courageous battle with Alzheimer’s, and met his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Wayne was an Army veteran, a dedicated firefighter for the Grand Rapids Fire Department for 27 years and served as a deacon at Oakview Community Church for decades.

Wayne is preceded in death by his parents George & Gezina, and brothers Al (Marge) and Frank (Catherine). He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Merry Ellen (Hoover), brothers Gord and Russ (Carol), children Mike, Bob (Lynne), and Cathy (Jim) Meilstrup, as well as grandchildren Renee (Nich) Rowan, Carrie (Trevor) Manning, Ryan and Adam Meilstrup, Isaiah Bass, and great grandsons Hudson and Trey Manning and Camden Rowan.

Visitation will be held at the Metcalf & Jonkhoff Funeral Home from 10am-12pm on Friday, October 1, with a funeral service immediately following at 12pm.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to Covenant Living of the Great Lakes benevolence fund, Faith Hospice of Grand Rapids, or the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.

The family would appreciate continued prayers for Wayne’s widow, Merry Ellen, as she continues her battle with Alzheimer’s.
