William Harry "Bill" Bylenga was peacefully called home on Tuesday, December 9th. Bill was born March 7, 1929 to the late Harry and Hazel Bylenga. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Bill lived a life marked by quiet strength, steady kindness, unwavering loyalty to the people he loved, and his strong faith.
Bill was preceded in death by his son, Mark, and his beloved wife, Jacqueline (Gingrich), whom he missed dearly.
One of Bill’s greatest joys in life was his family. He lit up every time a grandchild or great-grandchild entered the room, greeting them with in the kind of love and delight that made them feel truly special. His presence brought comfort, his humor brought laughter, and his heart brought a sense of home. In his work career, Bill served in numerous roles at Star Truck Rentals over some 70 years, retiring as CEO and Chairman. Many said to work with Bill was to be a part of his family.
He is survived by his children, who will carry his legacy forward with love Tom (Kay) Bylenga, Jill (Tom) Birtles, and David (Cheryl) Bylenga; grandchildren Kristen Siebert, Ryan Birtles, Nicole Goodale, Ashleigh Bylenga-Rugg, Emily Birtles, and Trisha Bylenga; and step-grandchildren Troy Crum and Jodi Beebe. His family will always cherish his gentle spirit, his sense of humor, and the many lessons, big and small, he passed on.
Bill will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his integrity, and the quiet joy he found in life’s simple moments. His presence will be deeply missed, but the love he shared will remain with all who knew him.
His celebration of life will be held Monday, December 15 from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. at the Metcalf and Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 4291 Cascade Rd. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546, followed by a service beginning at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Van Andel Institute or Helen DeVos Children's Hospital.
