I was very sorry to belatedly hear of the death of Al Swanson, whom I once had the honour of meeting at a hand symposium organised by my uncle, Tom Wadsworth. Al Swanson was Tom's mentor and he owed much to Dr Swanson for his subsequent career, in becoming himself a eminent hand surgeon in the UK.

I am so saddened to hear of the passing of Dr. Swanson. He was my doctor for many, many years. As a child, I had contracted TB of the bone and Dr. Swanson took such good care of me. He cured my TB of the bone and it (at that time) was the only known total cure of this disease. I spent many, many months in Mary Free Bed. He was my light in the dark...he was my friend. He once told my Mom that my case was mentioned in one of his publications, but I can't seem to find it. No matter...he cured me of that awful disease and I am forever grateful! Dr. Swanson was such a talented and extremely loved man...loved by some that he probably wasn't aware of...I remember my very last visit with him when I was 16 years old...he said 'You're fine! Now go out there and have some fun!'..I'll be 69 this year and indeed, his procedures allowed me to have fun and it continues to this day. Rest in Peace, Dr. Swanson...your legacy will always live on in the hearts of those you've cared for and cured. God Bless You! You're home....

It is truly a sad day when one of your heroes passes away. My heart truly grieves for the family, friends, & many thousand of patients that were touched by the brilliance & dedication of this wonderful man. He was literally one of the men that made me what I am today. You will truly be missed Dr. Swanson

May God bless you, grant you peace and grace and understanding during this time of sadness with the passing of an amazing man. I cherish the opportunities Dr. Swanson gave me to learn and improve my skills working for him in Orthopaedic Research at Blodgett. Sending sincere sympathies to his family and wider circle of friends. I know Dr. Swanson is at peace now with no more suffering.
