Bruce H. Coleman

Bruce H. Coleman, beloved father, grandfather and great grandfather, age 81, of Grand Rapids, went to be with his Lord and personal Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, October 9, 2016.  He was born Novemeber 16, 1934.  Bruce was preceded in death by his wife, Arlene J. Coleman and his brother Dr. Alwin B. Coleman. He graduated from Creston High School and Michigan State University in 1956 where he had earned his Bachelors Degree in three years and was an honorary member of the Varsity S club.  He was well known to coaches and players and loved his Spartans.  In 1968 Bruce returned to MSU and completed a Masters Degree in one year.  Bruce taught at Grand Rapids Public Schools for over 30 years and was a middle school track coach and went on to win several city championships. He served as a lifeguard, referee, various positions with the city of Grand Rapids Recreational Department and also worked for the Marine Patrol with the Kent County Sheriffs Department.  He is survived by his children, Tom (Pam) Coleman, Julie (Dennis) Boelens and Ken (Kathy) Coleman; grandchildren, Jason, Amanda, Kyle, Taylor, Ryan, Nicholas, Katelyn and Jacob; several great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other family members.  Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 12pm at Messiah Lutheran Church.  Interment at Blythefield Memorial Gardens.  The family will greet friends on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm at the Metcalf & Jonkhoff Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at church from 11am to 12pm. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are suggested to Messiah Lutheran Church.
