Lola Adella Dunn

September 20, 1917 ~ July 12, 2016 (age 98) 98 Years Old

Lola Dunn died peacefully on July 13, 2016 at Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, MI, after a short illness. She attended Trinity Methodist Church the Sunday before her death. She was born in Ionia, MI, September 20, 1917. She received a 5-year driver’s license renewal in person from the State of Michigan at age 94, and lived independently until last year.  She served as a volunteer in many organizations over the course of her life. She was a gifted writer and poet and used these gifts to benefit, among others, the Red Cross in public relations, and programs that she presented as a Lay Speaker at Trinity Methodist Church, and other Churches in western Michigan. She regularly earned a pin as the oldest volunteer at the Clark Retirement Community serving as a hostess in the Chatterbox Café until her late 80’s.  Her faith was very important to her. She sang in the choir at Trinity for most of her life, as well as being active in the United Methodist Women’s activities. When her children were youngsters at home, they would have to inquire if the freshly baked goods were for them or the Church.  She is survived by her son Douglas and his wife Jill, her grandchildren: Brooks Dunn, an architect in Los Angeles, Gillian Tucker, a mother and human relations consultant in Northport, NY, her husband Christopher Tucker, and Dr. Joshua Dunn, a genetic scientist in Boston, MA, and great grandchildren: Griffin, Jane and Anderson Tucker. Her son James Dunn predeceased her.  The funeral service will be held 2:00pm Thursday July 28, 2016 at Clark Retirement Community Chapel, 1551 Franklin St. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49506 with visitation one hour prior to the service in the chapel.  Interment in Balcom Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 1100 Lake Drive, Grand Rapids, MI 49506.
